Mount Angel Seminary Guardians Close the Soccer Season with a Shutout and a Loss

On Nov. 22 and Nov. 23, the MAS Guardians played two back-to-back home games, resulting in one shutout and a loss.  The shutout came on Saturday against Reed College, and the loss was 1-2 against Central Oregon Community College on Sunday.

Saturday's game began at noon with the Abbey bells ringing in the background and the rain coming down hard.  The field was muddy and slippery just minutes into the game.

In the second half, student coach Andres Guerra came out of the game and instructed his players from the sidelines.  An excellent header from new Guardian Conor Baer prevented a score by Reed.  Goalkeeper Joseph Nguyen also stopped several more Reed attempts.

At the end of Saturday's game, Guerra said to the team, "In soccer, it's beautiful when you get a shutout."

The game against COCC on Sunday was less rainy but just as muddy.  The one goal for MAS was scored in the second half by another new Guardian, Isaac Allwin.
